This Privacy Policy explains what data the "YouTube: Region selection, Highlights, Subtitles & Archive" browser extension ("the Extension", "we") handles, why, and how. By installing and using the Extension you agree to the practices described here.

1. Summary

The Extension is a language-learning aid for YouTube. It displays the current video's subtitles in a side panel, lets you highlight and save fragments, keep a local viewing history with your own notes and groups, work with an audio waveform/regions editor, and translate selected words or phrases.

The Extension has no servers, no user accounts, and no analytics or tracking. Almost all data stays on your device. The only data ever sent off your device is text you explicitly ask to translate, which is sent to Google Translate to return a result.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following is stored locally using the browser's storage.local and IndexedDB, and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Preferences and settings: interface language, waveform colors and settings, subtitle overlay settings, presets, panel positions.
• Viewing history: YouTube video IDs and titles, publish dates, playback rates, waveform regions and markers, and timestamps.
• Your content: comments/notes you write, favorites, custom groups, and highlighted subtitle fragments (the selected text, color, and timing).
• Subtitle text of the video you are currently viewing, used to render the side panel.

This data is stored only in your browser profile. It is not synced to any cloud or Google account by the Extension. You can delete it at any time using the Extension's controls (clear/delete history, remove highlights) or by removing the Extension, which removes its locally stored data.

3. Data Sent to Third Parties

3.1 Google Translate

When you request a translation or dictionary lookup, the selected text you chose, together with the source and target language codes, is sent to Google's translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) over HTTPS to obtain the translation. This is the only situation in which content from your activity leaves your device.

• We do not attach any identifier to these requests.
• Results may be cached temporarily in memory during your session and are not persisted to disk by us.
• This request is processed by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

3.2 YouTube (Google)

• The Extension reads subtitle data from YouTube to show subtitles in the panel.
• Video thumbnails are loaded as images from YouTube's content delivery network (i.ytimg.com) to display your history. As with any image request, Google may receive your IP address and the requested video ID.

YouTube/Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not:

• collect names, emails, addresses, or other personal identifiers;
• require or create any account or login;
• use analytics, telemetry, advertising, fingerprinting, or any tracking;
• run remote code;
• sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, except for the single translation request described in Section 3.1, which exists solely to provide the translation feature you requested.

5. Permissions and Why They Are Used

• storage — to save your settings, history, highlights, and notes locally.
• sidePanel — to display the subtitle/learning interface in the browser side panel.
• tabs — to detect the active YouTube tab and identify the current video so the correct subtitles and history are shown.
• Host access to www.youtube.com — to read subtitles and video information on YouTube pages where the Extension operates.
• Host access to translate.googleapis.com — to perform the translation requests described in Section 3.1.

The Extension operates only on YouTube and the translation endpoint. It does not read, monitor, or transmit data from any other website.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Locally stored data persists until you delete it or uninstall the Extension. You control all of it directly:

• Use the in-product controls to delete history items, highlights, comments, or groups.
• Uninstalling the Extension removes its locally stored data from your browser profile.

We retain nothing on our side, because we operate no servers.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. No personal data is gathered or transmitted by us.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar)

Because all data is stored locally on your device and we hold no personal data on any server, you can access, modify, or erase your data yourself at any time through the Extension's controls or by uninstalling it. We do not sell personal information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, in the Extension's listing.
